We will be doing a 16 x 20 painting of a sunset. We will study sunset skies, water and reflection, as well as trees. Each artist can choose colors that they like, and will also learn silhouettes. (See sample photo.)Students may bring their own canvas, or I will have canvas for purchase the day of workshops. Students may bring their own brushes and paints, and I will have both paint and brushes to share.

COIL BASKET WEAVING 1 -

Using upholstery cord provided by the class instructor, you will learn the technique of basket coiling which was perfected by Native American basket makers. You will wrap yarn around cord and coil the basket upward from there. You should bring: a minimum of 2-3 colors of yarn - thick yarn is easiest to work with.

Let's take basket making further! Your choice to use those non-recyclable plastic shopping bags that are accumulating in your cupboards or torn strips of fabric from your favorite old clother or thrift store items like jeans or fabric with nice colors or you can continue using yarn fibers. This is your chance to refine your technique and add style, shape and possibly a lid to your second project. This class will let you explore the direction you want to take your basket weaving project. You should bring: your choice of material - yarn, fabric or old clothes to tear into strips (coton works best) or a lot of plastic shopping bags.
SILK SCARF DYEING -

Using fiber-reactive dyes and Habotai silk, we'll create stunning, colorful scarves with color that won't fade, even after lots of washings. The scarves can be popping bright or subtle earth tones. We'll make 3 scarves and all supplies will be provided. You will have all the info and instructions to go home and make more beautiful scarves!
PAPER MACHE LOOM & WEAVING -

Using newspapers and a cardboard flat you will create a frame for your future loom. To this frame, paper mache will be applied and painted. Your frame will be strung and converted into a loom. Then you will weave yarns, sticks or other found objects into your loom and leave with a finished peice of art. You will need to bring: a cardboard flat, like a shoebox lid or grocery store flat for canned goods, 2-3 newspapers, and any type of yarn plus other found objects such as beads, feathers, sticks or natural grasses to weave into your wall hanging.
SEED BEAD WEAVING -

Using supplies provided by the instructor, you will learn the technique of seed bead weaving. You are required to bring: These are tiny beads and require a large eye needle, there are many styles of the collapsible large eyed seed bead or jewelry bead needles. They are very easily bent and/or lost. If you want your own needles, they can be found at any craft store: Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s...I will have needles available for purchase at the price of a package of 4 needles $5; 1 single needle $1.50.

This 5 hour workshop will give you a crash course on what it takes to audition and perform in successful musical theatre. Each student should come prepared with one or two songs from a musical that they would like to work on. At the end of the day we will have a showcase for friends and family to see what we have learned. What you should bring: Karaoke tracks of the songs you would like to work on (CD, listening device, or smart phone), clothes and shoes that you are comfortable moving in (dance attire preferred but not required), bottle of water.

This class will hone your improvisational skills in 4 two hour sessions of games, scenes, and characterization. You will learn everything from short form improv (e.g. Whose Line Is It Anyway) to interactive theatre (e.g. murder mysteries or renaissance faires) to how to get out of a jam during a live performance (e.g. my scene partner missed his entrance! How do I stall!?) Students will have the option to use part of their last session for a showcase to show off what they have learned for friends and family.

Have you always wanted to learn to juggle and thought you couldn't? Or maybe you taught yourself but it isn't going so well? This 2 hour workshop will not only get you juggling 3 balls, but will give you the proper theory & technical foundation to continue getting better on your own. NOTE: Students have the option of bringing their own equipment, which should be: juggling beanbags or solid balls such as baseballs or lacrosse balls. NO TENNIS BALLS! The instructor will also have basic juggling balls available for use during the workshop. These will be available for purchase at the price of $5.00/set if the student wishes to take them home.

So you've learned how to juggle 3 balls and you're thinking “Now what?” This 2 hour workshop will explore 3 ball tricks, the basics of 4 & 5 ball juggling, using partners, and passing balls. The theory and basic ideas of trick building will also be discussed, giving the students the framework to learn and create tricks on their own. NOTE: This class is for those who are already comfortable and reasonably proficient with 3 ball juggling. Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment so that they are comfortable with it (NO TENNIS BALLS). However, students also have the option of purchasing a set of 5 high-quality, professional juggling bags from the instructor at a cost of $45.00. If they are purchasing equipment, they MUST indicate this at registration. A limited amount of lower quality equipment will be available for use without purchase.

An introduction to juggling clubs. This 2 hour class will take your ball juggling skills and apply them to the classic juggling club. At the end of the session, the student will be able juggle 3 clubs with proper technique. The student will also be familiar with counts and be able to throw “doubles” and “triples” with an eye toward tricks and passing clubs with a partner. NOTE: This class is for those who are already comfortable juggling 3 balls. Students must either provide their own equipment (any standard size juggling club is fine) or purchase a set of 3 clubs from the instructor at the cost of $35.00. If purchasing clubs from the instructor, the student must indicate this during registration.

An exploration of 3 club tricks and an introduction to passing clubs with partners. Along with individual tricks, the students will gain an understanding of different styles of tricks and how to link them together to form routines. The basics of club passing and pattern sharing will also be introduced. NOTE: This class is only for those who are confident 3 club jugglers looking to improve their skills. Students must be able to hold a 3 club cascade (normal pattern) without dropping for 1 minute. Students are highly encouraged to bring their own equipment, but can purchase a set of 3 clubs from the instructor at a cost of $35.00. If they are purchasing clubs from the instructor, they must indicate this when registering.

MURAL CLASS - AGES 6-11

We will be working on a portable mural. A portable mural is a large painting that is done on a very large canvas or plywood rather than a wall. The subject of the mural for the children will be an underwater theme. Each child will have an underwater creature to paint, as well as surroundings like seaweed, and a treasure chest. The mural will be displayed in a local business for 2 weeks, and then will be available for sale, with profits benefiting the BSAA.
